ABSTRACT As part of an ongoing project treating the ferns and lycophytes from the region of Viçosa, Minas Gerais State, Brazil, we here present the taxonomic treatment of the early divergent lineages of the leptosporangiate ferns: the families Dennstaedtiaceae, Lindsaeaceae and Saccolomataceae. We have been sampling the remnant forest patches since 2012; we also fully reviewed the collection of herbarium VIC and other online collections: F, IAN, NY, PH, RB, U, UC, UPCB, US, and WTU. In the region of Viçosa, six taxa belonging to those families occur: Dennstaedtia cicutaria and Pteridium esculentum subsp. arachnoideum (Dennstaedtiaceae); Lindsaea lancea var. lancea, L. quadrangularis subsp. quadrangularis, and L. stricta var. stricta (Lindsaeaceae); and Saccoloma elegans (Saccolomataceae). Among these taxa, only L. quadrangularis subsp. quadrangularis and S. elegans are endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest; the remaining are widespread in the Neotropics. We present keys, descriptions, illustrations, examined specimens, and comments.

RESUMO Como parte de um projeto em andamento sobre samambaias e licófitas da região de Viçosa, Estado de Minas Gerais, Brasil, apresenta-se o tratamento taxonômico das primeiras linhagens divergentes de samambaias leptosporangiadas: as famílias Dennstaedtiaceae, Lindsaeaceae e Saccolomataceae. Expedições de campo foram realizadas desde 2012 em remanescentes florestais da região. Também foi realizada uma revisão completa da coleção do herbário VIC, bem como de outras coleções online de herbários: F, IAN, NY, PH, RB, U, UC, UPCB, US, and WTU. Na região de Viçosa, existem seis táxons pertencentes a essas famílias: Dennstaedtia cicutaria e Pteridium esculentum subsp. arachnoideum (Dennstaedtiaceae); Lindsaea lancea var. lancea, L. quadrangularis subsp. quadrangularis e L. stricta var. stricta (Lindsaeaceae); e Saccoloma elegans (Saccolomataceae). Dentre esses táxons, apenas L. quadrangularis subsp. quadrangularis e S. elegans são endêmicos da Mata Atlântica brasileira; as demais estão amplamente distribuídas na região Neotropical. São apresentadas chaves, descrições, ilustrações, materiais examinados e comentários.

ABSTRACT In the Municipality of Viçosa, one family, three genera, and five species of Gleicheniales occur: Dicranopteris flexuosa, Gleichenella pectinata, Sticherus bifidus, S. lanuginosus, and S. nigropaleaceus (Gleicheniaceae). All these species are very common in the area, forming dense thickets (“gleiquenais”) in disturbed areas, and co-occurring in these thickets. Dicranopteris flexuosa, G. pectinata, and S. bifidus are widespread in the Neotropics; Sticherus lanuginosus is widespread in South America and Costa Rica; and S. nigropaleaceous is endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic Forest. We provide nomenclatural corrections for S. lanuginosus. In Osmundales, only one species is found in Viçosa, occurring in marshes: Osmunda palustris (Osmundaceae). The taxonomy of Osmunda is still controversial, with the main Brazilian taxon named as O. palustris, O. regalis, O. regalis subsp. palustris, O. regalis var. spectabilis, O spectabilis, or O. spectabilis var. palustris. In our view, the best name for the taxon occurring in Viçosa is O. palustris, a taxon likely with a Neotropical distribution. Our taxonomic judgment is based on the re-interpretation of recent phylogenetic works, together with populational and morphological studies comparing Brazilian specimens with specimens from the U.S.A. We present descriptions, illustrations, examined specimens, taxonomic comments, and keys to identification.

RESUMO No município de Viçosa, uma família, três gêneros e cinco espécies de Gleicheniales ocorrem: Dicranopteris flexuosa, Gleichenella pectinata, Sticherus bifidus, S. lanuginosus e S. nigropaleaceus (Gleicheniaceae). Todas estas espécies são extremamente comuns na região, formando densos gleiquenais em áreas alteradas, e co-ocorrendo nestes gleiquenais. Dicranopteris flexuosa, G. pectinata e S. bifidus são amplamente distribuídos na região neotropical; Sticherus lanuginosus é amplamente distribuído na América do Sul e Costa Rica; e S. nigropaleaceous é endêmico à Floresta Atlântica brasileira. São providas correções nomenclaturais em S. lanuginosus. Em Osmundales, apenas uma espécie é encontrada em Viçosa, em ambientes paludosos: Osmunda palustris (Osmundaceae). A taxonomia de Osmunda é ainda controversa, na qual o principal táxon brasileiro vem sendo identificado como O. palustris, O. regalis, O. regalis subsp. palustris, O. regalis var. spectabilis, O. spectabilis, ou O. spectabilis var. palustris. Aqui, sugere-se que o melhor nome a ser adotado ao táxon ocorrente em Viçosa seja O. palustris, e ele provavelmente tenha distribuição neotropical. A decisão taxonômica foi baseada na re-interpretação de estudos filogenéticos recentes e em estudos populacionais e morfológicos, comparando espécimes brasileiros e norte-americanos. São apresentadas descrições, ilustrações, lista de material examinado, comentários taxonômicos e chaves de identificação.

ABSTRACT We present the taxonomic treatment of the fern family Blechnaceae for the Flora of Viçosa, based on typology, morphology, and field observations. We report the occurrence of seven species and two putative hybrids, belonging to three genera: Blechnum appendiculatum, B. ×caudatum, B. ×confluens, B. gracile, B. aff. juergensii, B. occidentale, B. polypodioides, Neoblechnum brasiliense, and Parablechnum brasiliense, comb. nov. Among these taxa, four names are rescued from synonymy: B. appendiculatum, B. ×confluens, B. juergensii and P. brasiliense (this, with a new combination into Parablechnum). The putative hybrids, B. ×caudatum and B. ×confluens, are formed by the crossing of B. gracile × B. occidentale, and B. occidentale × B. polypodioides, respectively - as suggested by our observations in the field, morphological intermediancy, and literature review. Future studies involving cytogenetics, genetics, and palynology will be needed to better understand the complex of Blechnum hybrids, including the best status for B. aff. juergensii.

RESUMO É apresentado o tratamento taxonômico da família de samambaias Blechnaceae, para a Flora de Viçosa, baseado em tipologia, morfologia e observações em campo. São registradas a ocorrência de sete espécies e dois supostos híbridos, pertencentes a três gêneros: Blechnum appendiculatum, B. ×caudatum, B. ×confluens, B. gracile, B. aff. juergensii, B. occidentale, B. polypodioides, Neoblechnum brasiliense e Parablechnum brasiliense, comb. nov. Dentre estes táxons, quatro nomes são resgatados da sinonímia: B. appendiculatum, B. ×confluens, B. juergensii e P. brasiliense (este, com uma combinação nova em Parablechnum). Os supostos híbridos, B. ×caudatum e B. ×confluens, são formados pelo cruzamento de B. gracile × B. occidentale, e B. occidentale × B. polypodioides, respectivamente - como sugerido pelas observações em campo, morfologia intermediária e revisão da literatura. Estudos futuros envolvendo citogenética, genética e palinologia serão necessários para melhor se entender o complexo de híbridos de Blechnum, incluindo o melhor status para B. aff. juergensii.

RESUMO Uma nova espécie de samambaia espinhosa do gênero Dennstaedtia é descrita para a Amazônia brasileira e peruana. Dennstaedtia aculeata (sp. nov.) é a terceira espécie espinhosa conhecida para o gênero e a primeira na América do Sul. A comparamos com outra Dennstaedtia espinhosa da região neotropical, D. spinosa. Também apresentamos imagens, ilustrações e um mapa de distribuição dos espécimes, e discutimos a preferência da espécie por habitats de solos ricos ou relativamente ricos em nutrientes e a espinescência na família.

ABSTRACT A new spiny fern belonging to the genus Dennstaedtia is described from Brazilian and Peruvian Amazonia. Dennstaedtia aculeata (sp. nov.) is the third spiny species known for the genus, and the first in South America. It is compared with another Neotropical spiny Dennstaedtia, D. spinosa. We also present images, illustrations and a distribution map of the specimens, and discuss the habitat preference of the species towards nutrient-richer soils and spinescence in the family.

Resumo Como parte do projeto Flora do Espírito Santo, aqui é apresentado o tratamento taxonômico da família de samambaias Saccolomaceae, contendo uma chave de identificação, descrições, ilustrações e lista de espécimes examinados. Neste estado, duas espécies de Saccoloma ocorrem, S. elegans e S. nigrescens, e ambas são endêmicas da Floresta Atlântica brasileira.

Abstract As part of the Flora of Espírito Santo project, we present the taxonomic treatment of the fern family Saccolomataceae, with a key, descriptions, illustrations, and a list of examined specimens. Two species of Saccoloma occur in the state of Espírito Santo: S. elegans and S. nigrescens. Both species are endemic to the Brazilian Atlantic Rainforest.

RESUMO O objetivo foi apresentar o levantamento florístico das briófitas do Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro, incluindo uma avaliação da riqueza de espécies, bem como informações sobre a preferência de substrato de cada espécie e suas distribuições geográficas no Brasil. Encontramos 208 táxons de briófitas: um antócero, 88 hepáticas e 119 musgos. Essa riqueza representa 26% da brioflora do Estado de Minas Gerais e 13% do Brasil. Dezoito das espécies de briófitas são endêmicas do Brasil, enquanto 19 espécies são registradas pela primeira vez em Minas Gerais. A brioflora mostrou preferência pelo substrato casca de árvore (30%) e rocha (23%). Os dados obtidos mostram que o Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro é uma área importante para a conservação da diversidade de briófitas brasileiras e para a manutenção de espécies endêmicas do país.

ABSTRACT The objective was to present the floristic survey of the bryophytes of the Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro. It included an evaluation of the species richness, as well as information about the substrate preference of each species and its geographic distributions in Brazil. We found 208 taxa of bryophytes: one hornwort, 88 liverworts and 119 mosses. This richness represents ca. 26% of the bryoflora of Minas Gerais State and ca. 13% of that known for Brazil. Eighteen of the bryophytes species are endemic to Brazil, whereas 19 species are recorded for the first time in Minas Gerais. The bryoflora showed preference for tree bark (30%) and rock (23%) as substrates. Our data show that the Parque Estadual da Serra do Brigadeiro is an important area for the diversity conservation of Brazilian bryophytes and maintenance of endemic species of the country.

RESUMO Como parte do levantamento florístico da flora vascular da Pedra do Elefante, Estado do Espírito Santo, Brasil, é apresentado um tratamento taxonômico da família Anemiaceae. O trabalho de campo foi realizado mensalmente de março de 2015 a julho de 2016. As amostras foram coletadas e secas de acordo com os métodos usuais de coleta botânica e incorporadas aos herbários VIC e VIES. Além dos herbários VIC e VIES, também estudamos os espécimes do herbário MBML. Os herbários MBML, VIC e VIES foram visitados. Oito espécies, uma variedade e um novo híbrido ocorrem na área: Anemia colina, A. ×elephantensis nothosp. nov., A. ferruginea var. ferruginea, A. hirsuta, A. luetzelburgii, A. organensis, A. patens, A. phyllitidis, A. tomentosa var. tomentosa e A. tomentosa var. anthriscifolia. Além do novo híbrido, A. tomentosa var. tomentosa é um novo registro para o Estado. Chave de identificação, descrições, comentários, distribuição geográfica e ilustrações são fornecidas para todos os táxons.

ABSTRACT As part of a floristic survey of the vascular flora of Pedra do Elefante, Espírito Santo State, Brazil, a taxonomic treatment of the Anemiaceae is here presented. Fieldwork was conducted monthly from March 2015 to July 2016. Samples were collected and dried according to the usual methodology and incorporated into the VIC and VIES herbaria. In addition to VIC and VIES, we also studied the specimens form MBML herbarium. Eight species, one variety, and a new hybrid were recorded: Anemia collina, A. ×elephantensis nothosp. nov., A. ferruginea var. ferruginea, A. hirsuta, A. luetzelburgii, A. organensis, A. patens, A. phyllitidis, A. tomentosa var. tomentosa, and A. tomentosa var. anthriscifolia. Besides the new hybrid, A. tomentosa var. tomentosa is also a new record for the state. Identification key, descriptions, comments, geographical distribution and illustrations are provided for all taxa.

The "Hypolepis rugosula complex" has been the subject of great debate among pteridologists: some have considered H. rugosula a single subcosmopolitan (or circum-Antarctic) species, whereas others have considered it a species-complex, encompassing several species. In the 1920s and 1930s, four geographically distinct varietiesof H. rugosula were recognized. In this work, we present a new taxonomy (with new combinations and statuses, as well as typification and full synonymy), together with complete distribution data for the species, with an infraspecific classification based on morphological and biogeographic perspectives. Hypolepis rugosula occurs in southern temperate regions and high-elevation tropical regions of the Americas, Africa (including Madagascar), Oceania and the Philippines, as well as in some isolated oceanic volcanic islands (e.g., Saint Helena and Tristan da Cunha). Here, 15 geographically distinct subspecies are recognized. All subspecies are geographically segregated from each other, except in New Zealand, where two occur sympatrically-possibly due to two different arrival and colonization times. Four patterns of "indument" (referring to catenate and glandular hairs collectively) are distinguished. Different lineages are successful in their respective habitats; we observed two lineages with different ploidy levels (tetraploid and octoploid). Although long-distance dispersal is the best explanation for the extant distribution of H. rugosula;we do not exclude vicariance as a possible explanation for their occurrence on the land masses that were once united as Gondwana. Therefore, we are assuming that a fern species could remain unchanged for more than 70 Myr, and we are adopting the refugia theory, albeit with a different focus.

Neste trabalho são apresentados os dados referentes ao levantamento florístico das famílias Grammitidaceae e Polypodiaceae, no Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga (PEFI). Grammitidaceae está representada na área por apenas um gênero e uma espécie: Micropolypodium achilleifolium (Kaulf.) Labiak & F.B. Matos, enquanto que em Polypodiaceae há 15 espécies, enquadradas em seis gêneros: Campyloneurum (C. nitidum (Kaulf.) C. Presl, Microgramma (M. percussa (Cav.) de la Sota, M. squamulosa (Kaulf.) de la Sota e M. vacciniifolia (Langsd. & Fisch.) Copel.), Pecluma (P. paradisae (Langsd. & Fisch.) M.G. Price, P. truncorum (Lind.) M.G. Price e P. singeri (de la Sota) M.G. Price), Phlebodium (P. areolatum), Pleopeltis (P. astrolepis, P. hirsutissima e P. pleopeltifolia) e Serpocaulon (S. catharinae, S. meniscifolium, S. sehnemii e S. vacillans). São apresentadas chaves para identificação dos gêneros e espécies, bem como descrições, distribuição geográfica, comentários e ilustrações de alguns táxons.

In this work we present a floristic survey of the fern families Grammitidaceae and Polypodiaceae occurring in "Parque Estadual das Fontes do Ipiranga" (PEFI), located in São Paulo, SP, Southeastern of Brazil. Grammitidaceae is represented in the area by only one genus and one species: Micropolypodium achilleifolium (Kaulf.) Labiak & F.B. Matos, while Polypodiaceae is represented by 15 species, classified into six genera: Campyloneurum (C. nitidum (Kaulf.) C. Presl), Microgramma (M. percussa (Cav.) de la Sota, M. squamulosa (Kaulf.) de la Sota, and M. vacciniifolia (Langsd. & Fisch.) Copel.), Pecluma (P. paradisae (Langsd. & Fisch.) M.G. Price, P. truncorum (Lind.) M.G. Price, and P. singeri (de la Sota) M.G. Price.), Phlebodium (P. areolatum), Pleopeltis (P. astrolepis, P. hirsutissima, and P. pleopeltifolia), and Serpocaulon (S. catharinae, S. meniscifolium, S. sehnemii, and S. vacillans). We also present keys to identify the genera and the species, as well as description, geographical distribution, comments, and illustrations for some taxa.

Este trabalho apresenta o levantamento das espécies de Pteridófitas do Parque Estadual de Vila Velha, Ponta Grossa, Paraná. O Parque possui uma área de 3.803,28 ha, com altitudes de 800-1.100 m, com predomínio de Campos Gerais entremeados por Capões de Floresta com Araucária, além de afloramentos rochosos areníticos. Foram identificadas 152 espécies distribuídas em 54 gêneros, sendo os mais representativos Asplenium (11 spp.), Blechnum e Thelypteris (10 spp. cada), Pecluma, Polypodium e Trichomanes (7 spp. cada). Cem espécies foram registradas nas florestas, 47 nos campos e 60 nas formações areníticas. Vinte e sete espécies apresentam distribuição restrita ao Brasil, das quais 14 são endêmicas ao Sul e Sudeste. Menção especial para Ctenitis bigarellae Schwartsburd et al., Elaphoglossum langsdorffii (Hook. & Grev.) T. Moore, Alsophila capensis subsp. polypodioides (Sw.) Conant e Blechnum australe subsp. auriculatum (Cav.) de la Sota. São apresentados chaves de identificação, comentários e materiais selecionados.

In this work we present a floristic survey of the pteridophytes from the Vila Velha State Park, Ponta Grossa, Paraná. Vila Velha presents an area of 3,803.28 ha, altitudes varying from 800 to 1,100 m and it is mainly represented by natural grasslands surrounding Araucaria forest' spots and the peculiar sandstone formations arised. We have found 152 species, distributed in 54 genera, being Asplenium (11 spp.), Blechnum and Thelypteris (10 spp. each), Pecluma, Polypodium and Trichomanes (7 spp. each) the richest genera. One hundred species were found in the forests, 47 in the grasslands and 60 in the sandstone formations. Twenty-seven species are restricted to Brazil, of which 14 are endemic to the southeast and south Brazil. Special mention is made to Ctenitis bigarellae Schwartsburd et al., Elaphoglossum langsdorffii (Hook. & Grev.) T. Moore, Alsophila capensis subsp. polypodioides (Sw.) Conant and Blechnum australe subsp. auriculatum (Cav.) de la Sota. Identification keys, comments and list of specimens are also presented.
